When Tank (whose real name is Durrell Babbs) dropped R&B Money in 2022, the singer declared it his final album after he experienced sudden hearing loss in one ear. But four years later, the 50-year-old isn’t finished. He released his 11th studio album Experience in late September and is serving as a backup singer for Usher and Chris Brown’s joint tour.
I got to make a statement fast,” Tank says in the latest episode of Strong Talk. That's just how I rock.” The journey to return to the stage, performing shirtless every night on tour, wasn’t easy. With sensorineural hearing loss, Tank recalls how muffled people sounded, akin to speaking out of a walkie-talkie.
He also began experiencing frequent bouts of vertigo. The health issues he developed slowly chipped away at his identity. The hearing loss made it hard to stand, let alone sing.
The medication he was taking caused him to overeat and lose sleep. He was unable to work out anymore and fell into a depression. I couldn't hear myself,” says Tank.
Speaking with MH Fitness Director Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S. and exercise physiologist and strength coach Dr. Pat Davidson, the artist reveals the workout plan that rebuilt his fitness and confidence to get back on stage. The episode also goes into how he warms up backstage, his no-squat philosophy, and advice for any guy experiencing a personal challenge.
