Jo Adell returned to Angel Stadium on Monday for the first time since joining the Cleveland Guardians at the trade deadline this season. Adell received a standing ovation from Los Angeles Angels fans during his first at-bat of the game. Adell, who served as designated hitter for the Guardians, went 1-for-3 with a walk and a go-ahead RBI in Cleveland's 4-2 win in the series opener against Los Angeles.
The Guardians have two more games in the series against the Angels on Tuesday and Wednesday. Adell spent the first six and half seasons of his MLB career with the Angels. The franchise drafted him out of high school with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
Adell said he became a man while playing for the Angels, and returning to Angel Stadium is a reminder of all that he has experienced in his career. "I was just alluding to it earlier, but really, just the fact that I kind of became a man, you know, in the game here in Anaheim, and the ups, the downs, the great moments—you know, everything started on this field. "And every time that I come here, it's that reminder of the player that I am today.
It happened here at the stadium, so it's really a really surreal moment, and just really proud of my time, you know, as an Angel and what I was able to bring to the table, and how much that group helped me grow as a player, and so just forever thankful for that. And you know, now being on the other side, we're going to go try to take care of business," Adell said. Now, Adell is battling to make the first playoff run of his career.
The Guardians are in a tight race for the last American League Wild Card spot, so winning these next few weeks will be crucial to clinch a postseason berth.
