Josh Allen achieved the first overtime win of his career with the Buffalo Bills in a "Monday Night Football" thriller against the Los Angeles Rams, 37-34. The 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player completed 12 of 19 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown in the win. His biggest plays came in overtime, as he led his team into position so Tyler Bass could kick the game-winning 45-yard field goal.
After the win, Allen didn't hesitate to give his honest assessment of the opposing quarterback, 2025 MVP Matthew Stafford, who was on the losing side after an incredible "MNF" performance. "He's the MVP of last season for a reason. He's one of the greatest, if not the greatest thrower of the football of all time.
He's as tough as they come. I said this earlier; he's what every quarterback should aspire to be," he told Scott Van Pelt on "SportsCenter." More news: Rams’ Matthew Stafford Accomplished Something No QB in NFL History Ever Has "I feel like I've learned a lot from him, watching him over the years. So I've started developing a little bit of a relationship with him over the last couple seasons.
I'm just a huge fan of his," Allen said of Stafford. Stafford threw for a whopping 383 yards and three touchdowns, with zero interceptions thrown in the game. He finished with a 111.9 passer rating and, unfortunately, a tough loss at home.
Despite getting his team into position for an overtime field goal that could've won it, the Bills blocked Harrison Mevis's attempt. On the ensuing drive, the Bills were able to get the final score on a Tyler Bass game-winning field goal. This season, Stafford has thrown for 1,572 yards, ranking first in the league.
He has thrown nine touchdowns and probably has more than a few situations he wants back in winnable games, including his 150th career touchdown on Monday night for the Rams. Stafford and the Rams are now 2-3 and have stinging losses hanging over them to strong teams that were contenders last season. In addition to losing to Allen and the Bills, they've also lost to the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos.
