Paramount is developing a sequel to the romantic comedy How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, with lead actress Kate Hudson on board to produce. The project remains in its "very early days", with the studio presently searching for screenwriters to draft the script. Sources have confirmed that the goal is to bring back both Hudson and co-star Matthew McConaughey to recreate their roles from the 2003 original.
Hudson is set to produce the feature in partnership with Stacey Sher, whose previous credits as a producer include Pulp Fiction, Matilda, Erin Brockovich and Django Unchained. In the original movie, Hudson starred as magazine journalist Andy Anderson, who decides to write an article exploring how to date a man and subsequently push him away by committing "the classic mistakes women make". Simultaneously, McConaughey’s character, advertising executive Benjamin Barry, enters a wager with colleagues claiming he can make a woman fall in love with him within 10 days, in time for a company ball.
Grossing $177 million (£129 million) at the box office, the film was a commercial success and is regarded as a staple of the romantic comedy genre. The yellow Carolina Herrera gown worn by Hudson towards the climax of the feature has since earned iconic status in cinematic fashion. Hudson subsequently starred in several other titles in the genre, including You, Me And Dupree, Bride Wars, and Fool’s Gold, in which she shared the screen again with McConaughey.

McConaughey’s own romantic comedy filmography includes The Wedding Planner, Failure To Launch and Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past. In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 56-year-old Oscar-winning actor declared that How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days “is the gift that keeps on giving.” In recent years, Hudson has also starred on the small screen, playing the role of Isla Gordon in the Netflix basketball comedy TV series Running Point. In the show, Gordon takes on the role of the Los Angeles Waves president after her brother, Cam, is forced to step down.
