The latest offering from Kimi Recor's upcoming album Applewater is absolutely mesmerizing. Listening to it, I imagine being somewhere dark. Maybe there are trees, bats wandering around their branched limbs.
But there is certainly fog that grows outwards and upwards, majestic and slow and consuming. "Call To U," with its haunting vocals and tender harp strums, is dark and strange like entering a portal to a new world. Recor was raised in a forest in Bavaria and is now a Berlin-based artist and "sound therapist." I had no idea those existed, but based on this track alone I am totally convinced they're probably amazing at it.
Recor has been involved in a variety of musical communities, from jungle to post-punk to hardcore, but her first solo album Applewater seems to be focused more around ambient sounds, drones, and meditative states. Applewater is out 11/11 via Wandering Astray.
