Josh Hart entered New York Knicks Media Day with a lot of unanswered questions around his future. The veteran forward addressed his future with the team, making it clear that he would prefer clarity before the 2026-27 season gets underway. With extension talks still unresolved.
Hart was asked how important it was for him to get an extension done with the Knicks. He explained that allowing negotiations to linger into the season could bring questions, rumors and distractions. He added that if things remain unresolved into February, “it might be a different conversation.” Hart is under contract for 2026-27 and has a $22.4 million team option for 2027-28.
He is also extension eligible, with the Knicks facing other major future contract decisions. Hart averaged 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 66 games last season, shooting 50.8% from the field and 41.3% from three. His rebounding, playmaking and defensive energy remain central to his value.
The Knicks will need that impact again when their title defense begins Oct. 20 against the 76ers at Madison Square Garden.
