The New York Knicks are still riding high after their 2026 title. But champions never stay the same for long, and this roster already has a hole every fan at the Garden can see. Mitchell Robinson left for Boston, leaving Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond as the only true centers under contract.
With opening night close, the front office looks done waiting. ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel reported that New York is pushing hard for a backup big, and two familiar names could be on the move. "The Knicks have been 'aggressive' in exploring deals to land 'an impactful center to their bench unit.' The contracts of Pacome Dadiet and Miles McBride are the two most expected to be utilized in those attempts," Siegel reported.
Dadiet is the easy one to let go. He never found a steady role in two seasons, and most fans won't lose sleep over him leaving. Last season he averaged 12.0 points and hit 41.3 percent of his threes, both career highs.
Fans saw how much he gave the second unit. He did all of that on under $4 million. New York won't find the same level of production for that kind of money.
But that small number is also the problem. McBride is on an expiring deal, a raise is coming next summer, and the Knicks are already well over the tax line. That same salary is one of their best chips to match money for a real rotation big.
Losing him hurts, but it may be the price of fixing the middle. For now, James Wiseman and Drew Eubanks keep battling for that third center spot in camp. If neither grabs it, a deal could come quickly.
