The San Francisco 49ers will take the field for their second preseason game on Thursday night, matching up against the Los Angeles Chargers. On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said a "number of starters" will play in Thursday's game. 49ers starters did not play in the team's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans last Thursday. "Not all of them, but I expect a number of starters to play, unlike last week," Shanahan told reporters, via 49ersWebZone.
"I haven't told them yet, but they'll find out soon. But yeah, you guys will see a number out there." When asked specifically about starting quarterback Brock Purdy, Shanahan hinted that he's likely to take the field for some action on Thursday. "Haven't told him yet, but there's a good chance," Shanahan replied.
The 49ers will kickoff against the Chargers at 10 p.m. Then, they'll round out their preseason schedule with a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 27. San Francisco will open up its regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 10.
