As the Los Angeles Lakers continue to get closer to their 2026-27 regular season, they have now announced some huge news regarding legendary head coach Phil Jackson. The Lakers have announced they will be honoring Jackson with a statue during the 2026-27 season. The Lakers will officially unveil Jackson's statue before their April 9, 2027 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Seeing Jackson being honored with a statue by the Lakers is not difficult to understand. The 80-year-old had an amazing run as the Lakers' head coach, so he has undoubtedly earned this huge honor. Jackson led the Lakers to five NBA championship titles and seven NBA Finals appearances during his two stints and 11 years as their head coach.
This included him leading the Lakers to a three-peat from 2000 to 2022 and then back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010. With this, there is no question that Jackson was a fantastic coach with the Lakers. Jackson is now just the ninth member in Lakers history who will be getting a statue from the franchise.
The others who have been given this honor are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Chick Hearn, Shaquille O'Neal, Pat Riley, and Jerry West.
