A new attack ad revisits Lauren Boebert’s removal from a Beetlejuice theater performance for disruptive behavior in 2023.

A super PAC has aired an attack ad highlighting Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert’s removal from a theater during a performance of the musical Beetlejuice in 2023. The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC said in a Federal Election Commission filing Saturday that it spent $1.5 million on ads opposing Boebert, who is seeking reelection in November’s midterms. Newsweek contacted the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC and Boebert’s campaign and office via email on Tuesday.

Boebert and a male companion were removed from the Beetlejuice performance in Denver for causing a disturbance. CCTV footage later emerged appearing to show the congresswoman vaping and the pair groping each other. Footage also showed the Colorado Republican being escorted out of the theater as she gave an employee the middle finger.

The new attack ad intersperses clips of the CCTV footage with media headlines published at the time. "Beetlejuice is the ‘80s family classic. Also the show that Lauren Boebert was kicked out of for groping her date in a room full of children," the narrator says.

"Costs are skyrocketing in Colorado and politicians are failing us. If Lauren Boebert can't be trusted in a room full of kids, then she can't be trusted in the halls of Congress," the narrator continues. Boebert ultimately apologized for the Beetlejuice incident and said she "fell short of my values." Boebert noted that she was going through a "public and difficult divorce" at the time, which she said had created a "challenging personal time for me and my entire family." It’s not clear if the PAC spent the entire $1.5 million sum on the ads highlighting Boebert’s Beetlejuice saga, or if they produced other anti-Boebert content.

The ad is the group’s only Boebert-related content listed by the Google Ads Transparency Center. The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition, a clean-energy-focused super PAC, previously said it planned to spend $15 million to defeat Republicans who have resisted renewable energy incentives in seven U.S. House races, including Boebert.

As with the Boebert Beetlejuice ads, the PAC’s attack ads typically don’t focus on clean energy, but rather highlight other potential vulnerabilities in lawmakers’ records. Ads made by the PAC targeting Indiana Representative Victoria Spartz focused on her healthcare record and allegations that she used her office for personal gain. Boebert is running against Democrat Eileen Laubacher in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, with recent polls showing the Republican ahead.
