The Philadelphia 76ers made two massive additions this past offseason, signing LeBron James as a free agent and trading for Jaylen Brown in a blockbuster deal with the Eastern Conference-rival Boston Celtics. James and Brown now join a talented starting five featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. James is entering his historic 24th NBA season at 41 years old.
Embiid hasn't appeared in more than 40 games over each of his last three seasons in Philadelphia. In order to keep James and Embiid fresh throughout the year, the 76ers will reportedly limit both of their minutes to begin the 2026-27 season. "My understanding is LeBron James, Joel Embiid the hope is within the first few weeks of the season limit them to around 30 minutes a game," ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Tuesday.
"I have to say it: There's gonna be sacrifice." The 76ers will begin their 2026-27 regular-season campaign with a highly-anticipated Opening Day matchup against the reigning NBA-champion New York Knicks later this evening. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. ET from New York's Madison Square Garden.
