Luka Doncic opens up about his Lakers journey, offseason changes and what lies ahead as he enters another pivotal season.

Luka Doncic has opened up about the injury that ended his 2025-26 season. The Lakers star admitted he made a decision he wishes he could take back. Doncic injured his left hamstring against the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 2.

He felt discomfort during the first half. Still, he returned after halftime and eventually suffered a Grade 2 strain. The injury ruled him out for the Lakers’ playoff run.

Looking back, Doncic did not put the blame on JJ Redick. The Lakers coach faced criticism for keeping him on the floor. Doncic instead accepted responsibility.

I should have come out.” He then added, “I definitely regret it.” Those comments carry more weight now. Doncic has returned to the court after months of rehabilitation and preparation. He played 16 minutes against the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 5.

He scored 21 points in his preseason return and said afterward, “I felt great, honestly.” Redick has also noticed the difference. The Lakers coach praised Doncic’s offseason work and said he “came into camp in fantastic shape.” The physical changes are only part of the story. Doncic also skipped Slovenia’s FIBA commitments this summer as he focused on recovery and conditioning.

He is entering his first full Lakers season without LeBron James. That means even more responsibility now falls on Doncic. His leadership has already improved, according to new teammate Jaden Hardy.
