Peterborough United chairman and majority owner Darragh MacAnthony says he "promises" he will sell his 75% stake in the club in February if they are not in the top 10 of the League One table by then. Replying to a post on X, external following last night's 2-0 defeat at Bradford City in the Carabao Cup last-16, MacAnthony said: "I take full responsibility for all the squads built over my 20 years owning Posh. "For some reason I have a lot of confidence in the current one.
RS [Robbie Savage] will bring the best out of them & we as owners will support him in doing so. "My promise to you the fans is always honesty, so I make a promise that if this squad isn't top 10 by February, I'll put my share of the club up for sale & let others take the baton with our wonderful club". MacAnthony recently celebrated 20 years in charge at Peterborough and earlier this month appointed Savage as the club's new manager following the sacking of Luke Williams in September.
Savage won his first two games in charge, including a 3-1 win at Leicester City, but is now without a win in his last four in all competitions. Posh are currently 21st in the League One table, one point from safety after 12 games, and host Luton Town in their next match on Saturday. MacAnthony sold half his stake to Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson in 2018, through their Canadian business Kelgary Sports and Entertainment, but became sole majority shareholder again five years later after they stood down from the board.
