Former Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene claims she cannot remember the last time she saw someone wearing a MAGA hat, just as a Trump merch store went out of business due to lack of interest. Greene, who infamously broke with President Trump late last year in a feud over the Epstein files, made the remark on X in response to the shuttering of the Trump Superstore in Tennessee. Knoxville’s Trump Superstore is currently selling off its remaining inventory at a 50 percent discount, Slate reports, with the owner admitting shoppers had stopped turning up.

William “Bill” Hays told Slate that Trump’s popularity “really is dwindling, dwindling, dwindling”, putting the blame on the economic struggles facing many supporters. A /Ipsos poll released Monday found that just 33 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s performance in the White House. The survey of 1,166 Americans also showed 38 percent of voters think Democrats will handle the economy better, compared to 35 percent backing the Republicans.

Last October, well before the Iran war spiked the cost of oil and gas, Greene hit out at her fellow Republicans for "doing nothing" about rising food and healthcare costs. Splits in the MAGA base have centered around multiple other issues, including disagreements over the Epstein files and the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Greene was once an ardent supporter of Trump and was routinely seen in the kind of MAGA hat she says she rarely sees any more.

But as the politician grew increasingly critical of the Trump administration’s handling of the files’ release last year, her relationship with the president soured. She eventually resigned as a representative and has continued to criticize the president since, blasting him on social media over the Iran war and the cost of living. In response, Trump began referring to Greene as “Marjorie Traitor Brown”.

Analysis by The New York Times suggests there has been a drop in support for the president’s MAGA movement, at least on social media. A number of right-wing influencers on YouTube, X, and Rumble have seen a fall in their viewerships in recent months, the newspaper reported.
