The Los Angeles Chargers officially placed center Tyler Biadasz on the injured reserve this past Sunday, ending his season after he suffered a torn ACL in practice last week. The Chargers signed Biadasz as their starting center this past offseason. But now, the franchise must turn toward rookie interior lineman Jake Slaughter.
Los Angeles selected Slaughter with the No. 63 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. While the former Florida standout was initially expected to begin his NFL career as a depth piece, he'll now be slotted into the Chargers' Week 1 starting lineup. Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is confident in the young center's ability to deliver.
"I think he's uniquely structured for that sort of assignment," McDaniel said, via the team's official website. While McDaniel is confident in Slaughter, he also acknowledges the magnitude of Biadasz's injury. When you're invested in players and you see short-term adversity, it's rough," McDaniel said.
"I think Tyler, talking to him yesterday, he's gotten his vision set forth on how to make sure that you take whatever the circumstances in the short term that seem like it's a down and turn it into something positive. "His focus is in the appropriate spot and I have no doubt that he's going to come back better than ever when that day comes." The Chargers will open up their regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 13.
