New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel didn't hold back on a criticism of the team before the 2026 season kicks off. The longtime NFL player called out the team's lack of depth following Saturday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles when he said, "I do not think we have a very deep team." Vrabel, though, made it clear he wasn't taking a shot at the front office regarding roster moves because, well, he's part of those making decision. "We are the front office.
We are all making the decisions. We're all included in this. It was about the young guys we have to develop," Vrabel said Monday in his weekly appearance on sports radio WEEI.

And we have to be able to find some guys behind them to be backups, to be the first guy in ... those are the things that we are trying to develop and I guess that's what I was referencing," he added, via ESPN. In his first year as the team's head coach, Vrabel led the Patriots to a surprise Super Bowl appearance.
While it ended in a blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, it raised the expectations for New England, which entered the 2025 season with low expectations following a disastrous first season under head coach Jerod Mayo.
