The Washington Mystics officially clinched a spot in the 2026 WNBA playoffs after defeating the Portland Fire by a score of 105-100 on Sunday. The Mystics are the seventh WNBA team secure a playoff berth this season. In addition to the Mystics, the Minnesota Lynx, Golden State Valkryies, Las Vegas Aces, Atlanta Dream, Indiana Fever and New York Liberty will be competing in the playoffs this season.
With one playoff spot remaining, the Dallas Wings and Fire are the only two teams that have not been eliminated from playoff contention. But the Wings are 6.5 games ahead of the Fire, which means Dallas is more likely to clinch the final playoff spot this season. The Mystics have not competed in the WNBA playoffs since 2023.
And since the 2020 season, the Mystics have lost in the first round three times or missed the playoffs entirely. The 2019 WNBA playoffs was the last time the Mystics won a postseasons series, and it was the same season Washington won the WNBA championship. None of the players from the 2019 championship roster are currently on Washington's roster.
