New San Diego Padres co-owners Jose E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones made a bold promise to Padres fans on Monday.

Feliciano and Kwanza Jones made a bold promise to Padres fans in their introductory press conference on Monday. "We need to win the World Series," Feliciano said. That's what we're going to do." Feliciano and Jones purchased the Padres back in May but the transaction was formalized on Aug. 17 after receiving a unanimous vote from MLB.

Monday officially marked the start of a new era for the Padres. The new owners told reporters they plan to spend "ambitiously" and "judiciously." This means they value winning and will invest in acquiring the talent to becoming a World Series championship team but will also spend within the team's means. "We have been blessed with a team in a city that is supporting us in a way that is allowing us to invest back in that team, in that stadium, in that city," Feliciano said.

"We're committed to doing that. We are going to live within our means. That can mean different things in different years.

And we're going to continue to support that goal in many different ways. That means that at some points, we will be aggressive. But we're always going to do it while keeping the long-term health of the team in mind.

I think those are things that we're going to balance." The Padres have only ever made two World Series appearances in franchise history (1984, 1998). San Diego lost both of those World Series, but Feliciano and Jones have promised Friar fans they will do what it takes to lead the Padres to the franchise's first title.
