NFL Harshly Punishes Broncos OL for Leaking Drug Test Notification

The NFL and NFLPA previously readjusted the policy to fine players who post about drug tests.

The NFL announced its weekly round of fines handed out on Saturday, and Denver Broncos right guard Quinn Meinerz was issued a fine for something he did off the football field. Meinerz went viral in Week 3 when he flattened Los Angeles Rams defensive end Aaron Donald when tackling him. The incredible move prompted the NFL to send him a drug test.

When Meinerz received the notification on his phone, he screenshot a picture and posted it on his social media. This is somewhat common for NFL players to do when they receive a drug test notice. However, it's against the NFL and NFLPA's policies to post anything regarding a drug test as stated here: "[A]ny recording or photography of any stage of the collection process via any media (audio or visual), including but not limited to screen shots of testing notifications, video of the collectors or the collection of a specimen, and sharing such information via any social media is not permitted.

A player found in violation of the rule prohibiting unauthorized recording of the collection process and sharing such information on social media will be subject to a fine of $15,000.” So, on Saturday, the NFL fined Meinerz $15,000 for posting his screenshot, per The Denver Post's Parker Gabriel. Meinerz will be appealing the fine. This is the second week in a row in which Meinerz was fined by the league.

He earned a $14,926 fine in Week 3 for illegal celebrations and vulgar acts he showed after the Broncos scored a touchdown over the Rams. Players used to joke about receiving a drug test notification pretty often since the tests seem to always come after a player completes a miraculous action in a game. For instance, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley famously was asked to take a drug test after his incredible backwards hurdle in 2024.

However, ever since the league updated the policy with the $15,000 fine, players haven't posted their drug test notifications as often, unless they are willing to pay the hefty fine. It seems that Meinerz thought it'd be worth it.
