Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor experienced a breakout game to open up the 2026 season, boldly announcing his presence to the college football world. The sophomore signal caller lit up UL Monroe with five total touchdowns in a 62-13 win to begin the Bulldogs' campaign. He completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts for 354 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, while taking six carries for 59 yards and an additional score on the ground.
Nick Saban heaped praise on Taylor during an appearance with "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday. "[He's] the real deal, now. He’s the truth and the light," Saban said of Taylor, via Alabama reporter Mike Rodak.
"Just watching the guy play a little bit last year and a lot this year and then talking to [Mississippi State head coach] Jeff Lebby, this guy is a very good passer but athletic and can run and create plays on his own," Saban added. "I think this guy is gonna be a big-time surprise for a lot of people in the SEC." Taylor and the Bulldogs will look to continue their elite play into Saturday's Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
