Olga Kurylenko (“Quantum of Solace,” “Oblivion,” “Black Widow”) and Alex Pettyfer (“Magic Mike,” “The Butler,” “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”) are set to star in crime thriller “Breakwater,” which has been boarded for world sales by WestEnd Films. The film, directed by Luc Walpoth (“In Tandem,” “Dead Money”), is set to begin production in April 2027. WestEnd will launch sales at the upcoming American Film Market.
Set in a sun-soaked coastal paradise, “Breakwater” follows two women desperate for a way out. Iris (Kurylenko) is trapped in a toxic marriage, while Daya is a bartender desperate to escape her dead-end hometown. A chance encounter brings them together, and they hatch a plan to blackmail Iris’ sadistic husband Avery (Pettyfer) aboard his luxury yacht.
But what seems like the perfect escape quickly spirals out of control. Stranded on the high seas, with nowhere to run and no one to trust, Iris and Daya find their carefully laid plan turning into a fight for survival. The film is produced by Kurt Wimmer (“The Beekeeper 1 & 2,” “Law Abiding Citizen,” “Point Break”), Jib Polhemus (“The Mechanic,” “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” “The Expendables 2”), Hannah Leader (“Mary,” “Freud’s Last Session,” “A Visit to Grandpa’s”) and Tad Daggerhart (“Black Lotus,” “Coyotes”), who also penned the script (“Expend4bles,” “Black Lotus”).
James Ireland (“Echo Boomers”) executive produces for Dark Dreams Entertainment. Production in Malta will be overseen by Malta Film Service, led by partners Jean Pierre Magro and Vadim Fortunin. With credits including “Not Without Hope,” “Hounds of War” and “Blood on the Crown,” the company will manage on-the-ground line production, local crew integration, and rebate structuring across the shoot.
Walpoth said: “’Breakwater’ is a Mediterranean neo-noir thriller about lust, greed, betrayal and the desire to escape. Set against a gorgeous coastal backdrop, the film contrasts sun-drenched beauty with the darker tensions beneath the surface. Visually, I want to create a world that feels both sensual and unsettling, building from simmering suspense into a propulsive, high-stakes thriller as plans unravel and loyalties shift on the open sea.” Maya Amsellem, managing director of WestEnd, said: “’Breakwater’ is a gripping thriller with a fantastic cast in Olga and Alex and a hugely experienced creative team behind it.
Luc has a distinctive cinematic vision for the film, blending the atmosphere of classic noir with the pace and intensity of a contemporary thriller. We’re delighted to be teaming up again with Jib Polhemus on such an exciting project, and look forward to introducing the film to buyers at AFM.” WestEnd’s wider AFM slate includes new supernatural horror “Sketchbook,” starring Woody Norman and Billie Piper (shooting early 2027); Tim Blake Nelson’s “The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd,” starring Amanda Seyfried and Scoot McNairy (screening at AFM); “A Visit to Grandpa’s,” starring Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones (in post-production); “Margot & Rudi,” a romantic drama directed by Anthony Fabian, starring Naomi Watts (in pre-production); action-thriller “Scorpion,” starring Pettyfer and Owen (in post-production); high-concept thriller “Ignition,” starring Maisie Williams; and “Unspeakable,” a horror from Corinna Faith, starring Eliza Scanlen and Essie Davis (in post-production).
