Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton stepped onto the court for his first regular-season game since suffering a torn Achilles injury in Game 7 of the NBA Finals two years ago. In his triumphant return to basketball, Haliburton led the Pacers to a 123-120 win over the New Orleans Pelicans — recording 23 points and 12 assists. Haliburton was visibly emotional following this victory, breaking down in tears as he took the microphone for a postgame interview with team reporter Jeremiah Johnson.
"It means a lot to be back out here" Haliburton said while battling through the tears. "[I've thought about this] a lot. I'm just really thankful to be back out here." Without Haliburton on the court last season, the Pacers finished the year with a disappointing 19-63 record.
Now 1-0, Indiana is looking to bounce back in a big way. "Means the world to be back in the fight with my brothers. See y’all Friday, go ‘Cers," Haliburton wrote on social media after the game.
The Pacers will face off against the Dallas Mavericks in their home opener on Friday night.
