ESPN's "College GameDay" has implemented a new tradition since the addition of Pat McAfee: the field goal kicking challenge. Each week, a fan is selected to attempt a field goal kick from about 30 yards out — with massive cash winnings and charity donations on the line. ESPN personality Stephen A.
Smith recently gave props to McAfee for this idea, calling it one of the funniest things on television. "There is very little in television that's funnier than that damn Pat McAfee field goal contest. It's hilarious," Smith said on Tuesday morning's episode of "First Take." McAfee responded to this praise from his ESPN colleague, while also issuing a $1 million challenge.
"I appreciate you @stephenasmith. Let’s see you at a @CollegeGameDay this year," McAfee wrote on social media. "$1,000,000 to charity?!?!?" College GameDay will begin its 2026 schedule this weekend in Baton Rouge, setting up shop for a highly-anticipated Week 1 matchup between Clemson and LSU.
Then, the crew will travel to Austin for a matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns. The following week, College GameDay will be in Oxford for Lane Kiffin's return to Ole Miss as head coach of LSU.
