The New England Patriots will be out for revenge when they take the field in what will be a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks in the inaugural game of the 2026-27 NFL season. Unfortunately for Patriots fans, the high-powered New England offense that ranked inside the top-five in scoring this past season may very well be heading into Week 1 short-handed in the backfield. Second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson has been absent from Patriots practice dating back to Aug. 24 after sustaining an ankle injury that seems to have his Week 1 status in jeopardy.
According to Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss, Henderson again missed practice on Thursday, giving him just three more practices before the Super Bowl LX runner-ups take the field for their rematch against the Seahawks. More news: Lamar Jackson Sends Warning to Rest of NFL About Ravens’ New Offense Going into his second season in the NFL, expectations are certainly high for Henderson to take a jump and potentially even take a larger share of the responsibilities from veteran running back Rhamondre Stevenson in the Patriots backfield. More news: Key Member of 49ers’ Pass-Rush Didn’t Travel to Australia for Rams Clash That certainly could become difficult for Henderson should he be forced to miss Week 1 against the Seahawks.
On the flip side, Stevenson may very well have an excellent opportunity to stake his claim to be the lead back in New England should Henderson miss their Week 1 game against Seattle. Regardless of who is in the Patriots backfield for Week 1, they will face a tough test against a Seahawks defense that ranked as the third best rushing defense in all of football in the 2025-26 regular season, allowing just an average of 91.9 rushing yards per game to opponents. The Patriots will kickoff against the Seahawks at 8:20 p.m.
ET in the first game of the 2026-27 NFL regular season on Sept. 9.
