The New England Patriots have bounced back from their slow start to the season and are setting themselves up to be buyers because of it. One area that the Patriots could look to strengthen between now and the trade deadline is their defense. Because of this, New England is now being linked to one of their former stars.
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox named the Patriots as a potential trade landing spot for Miami Dolphins edge rusher Josh Uche. "While the Dolphins don't have many sensible assets left to trade, veteran edge Josh Uche is an option. Uche just turned 28 in September, but he's set to be a free agent in the spring and may not be in Miami's long-term plans.
However, he's a talented rotational defender who would interest teams that need help rushing the passer," Knox wrote. "Potential Suitors: New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles." Seeing the Patriots named a possible suitor for Uche is understandable. He is a player who they already know well and would have the potential to boost their roster.
Because of this, it would make sense if they targeted him from the Dolphins this season. Uche also played his best football as a member of the Patriots. In 58 games over five seasons with the Patriots from 2020 to 2024, he recorded 20.5 sacks and 76 combined tackles.
This included him recording a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2022 with New England. Due to this, it would make sense if the Patriots target Uche ahead of the deadline. It will be intriguing to see if they can land him from here.
