The Philadelphia Phillies are parting ways with one of their pitchers. The Phillies have announced that they have designated right-handed pitcher Brian Keller for assignment. This was in response to them signing pitcher Nestor Cortes.
Keller appeared in his first career MLB game back in July for the Phillies, where he allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out three batters in three innings. Overall, it was a decent first major league appearance for the 6-foot-3 righty, but he did not pitch for the Phillies again after it. Keller has spent the majority of this season in the minors, though.
In 13 minor league games this season, he has posted a 1-3 record, a 3.86 ERA, and 47 strikeouts. Overall, he has been having a decent campaign in the minors. Teams looking for more pitching depth could consider taking a flier on Keller now that he has been designated for assignment.
He has shown promise this season in the minors and could be a solid pitcher for another team to take a chance on during this final stretch of the season. Due to this, it would not be particularly surprising if another MLB team decided to claim him off of waivers. In 142 career minor league games over seven seasons, Keller has posted a 35-30 record, two saves, 622 strikeouts, and a 3.24 ERA.
