One of the Philadelphia Phillies' top goals for this offseason should be to add another star outfielder to their roster. Because of this, the Phillies are already being connected to one of baseball's top free agents. In a recent article for The Athletic, Jim Bowden named the Phillies among the top potential fits for Chicago Cubs star outfielder Seiya Suzuki in free agency.
Given the Phillies' need for another outfielder to strengthen their roster, it makes sense that they are being viewed as a possible destination for Suzuki. He would give them another impactful hitter for the front half of their lineup if signed. He would also give them a versatile player if signed, as he is effective in both the outfield and at DH.
However, Suzuki is expected to land a nice payday this offseason due to how well he has played over the last few seasons. Bowden projected that Suzuki will end up earning a five-year, $120 million contract in free agency. If this ends up being Suzuki's asking price, that would be both a lot of money and term for the 32-year-old.
Yet, with the Phillies looking to win the World Series and their core getting older, they could be the kind of team willing to give Suzuki a big deal. Suzuki posted 26 home runs, 86 RBI, and a .270 batting average in 143 games this season with the Cubs. He has also hit at least 20 home runs in each of his last four seasons.
This included during the 2025 season when he posted career highs with 32 home runs and 103 RBI. With numbers like these, he would be a major pickup for the Phillies if signed.
