On Wednesday, Sony revealed the next batch of PlayStation Plus subscribers' free Essential games. Like most months, there's a little something for everyone on offer: Dead Island 2, Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, and Monster Train 2 will be available starting Nov. 3. Dead Island 2 is a chaotic zombie game set in the sunny streets of Los Angeles. ("Hell-A," as developer Dambuster Studios calls it.) Its very brutal and gory melee combat gets you up close and personal when taking down zombies, with an emphasis on dismembering them.
Not for those with a weak stomach! You can play a three-player online co-op horde mode, because the only thing better than killing zombies is doing it with friends. More of Lara Croft's early adventures are given a glow-up in Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered.
It includes The Last Revelation, where Croft tangles with an ancient Egyptian prophecy; Chronicles, which finds Croft's friends reminiscing about her career after she's presumed dead; and The Angel of Darkness, where a very much alive Lara Croft goes on the run after being accused of murder. Each game includes the original graphics and remastered visuals, and you can swap between them at any time. Monster Train 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder where you command a team of united angels and demons.
Journey through Hell, Heaven, and the Abyss to defeat the villainous Titans in card-based battles. It also includes an increasingly difficult Endless Mode to really test your skills. Dead Island 2, Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, and Monster Train 2 will be available until Nov. 30.
You can still grab October's free PlayStation Plus essential games — F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 — through Nov. 2. PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest tier of Sony’s subscription game service. It offers online multiplayer access, a monthly assortment of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases.
PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for a three-month subscription, or $10.99 monthly, following a price hike across all tiers of PS Plus in May.
