Rangers Hit Historic New Low in Loss to Bruins

For the first time in their franchise history, the New York Rangers have been shut out in two straight season openers.

On Tuesday, the New York Rangers lost their season opener to the Boston Bruins by a 3-0 final score. Now, due to their tough season-opening loss, the Rangers have hit a new low in their franchise history. According to Sportsnet Stats, the Rangers have been shut out in back-to-back season openers for the first time in the history of their franchise.

This is certainly a concerning stat for the Rangers, and it shows that they have had their issues offensively. The Rangers starting this season being shut out is undoubtedly frustrating when noting that they had a busy offseason. They brought in several new players during the summer, including Pavel Dorofeyev, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Sean Durzi, Marcus Pettersson, and Joe Veleno.

However, it was still not enough for them to avoid making this unwanted history. While the Rangers being shut out by the Bruins is certainly not how they wanted their season to start, they still have plenty of time to turn things around. Yet, they will need to solve their scoring woes if they hope to have a bounce-back year and get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2024.

It will now be interesting to see how the Rangers respond after being shut out in their second straight season opener. Their next game is on Oct. 1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
