The New York Rangers are keeping one of their young defensemen around. The Rangers have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Vincent Iorio to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season. According to PuckPedia, he will have an $850,000 cap hit at the NHL level and a $125,000 salary in the minors.
The Rangers claimed Iorio off waivers from the San Jose Sharks this past season. In 27 games split between the Sharks and Rangers during the 2025-26 season, the 6-foot-4 defenseman recorded three assists, 15 hits, and 39 blocks. He also played in six AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda in 2025-26, posting seven assists.
Now, after landing this one-year contract with the Rangers, Iorio will be looking to have a breakout season with the Original Six club. The 23-year-old defenseman has good upside, and the possibility of him becoming a regular on the Rangers' blueline before the season is over should not be ruled out because of it. Iorio was selected by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, 55th overall.
In 36 career NHL games over three seasons split between the Capitals, Sharks, and Rangers, Iorio has recorded four assists, 20 hits, and 45 blocks. It will be interesting to see how much he can improve upon these career stats this upcoming season with the Rangers from here.
