The Cincinnati Reds have designated pitcher Kent Emanuel for assignment after he made his debut with the team on Monday.

The Cincinnati Reds are moving on from one of their pitchers. The Reds have announced that they have designated left-handed pitcher Kent Emanuel for assignment. In addition, the Reds shared that they have recalled pitcher Zach Maxwell from Triple-A Louisville.

Emanuel just started his first game of the season for the Reds on Monday, where he allowed two runs on five hits in five innings pitched. He also struck out four batters. Overall, he did a solid start for the Reds, even if he picked up the loss.

Now, with this news, Emanuel will hit the waiver wire. Teams looking for more pitching depth could consider taking a flier on the 34-year-old lefty. This is especially so when noting that he had a solid season debut for the Reds, even if he was designated for assignment after the fact.

In 23 career MLB games over three seasons split between the Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, and Reds, Emanuel has posted a 1-1 record, 29 strikeouts, and a 4.46 ERA. He has spent most of his career in the minors, as he has a 45-38 record, a 4.84 ERA, and 601 strikeouts in 186 career minor league games over 11 seasons. It will now be interesting to see if Emanuel gets claimed by another team after being designated for assignment by the Reds from here.
