Russia Says Oil Refinery Hit as Zelensky Says Ukraine 'Done' With Ceasefire

An oil facility in Ryazan was struck overnight, the regional governor has said.

Russian officials have said an oil refinery was hit in a suspected Ukrainian drone strike hours after Volodymyr Zelensky said he was "done" with a ceasefire on hitting energy facilities unilaterally declared by Donald Trump. Pavel Malkov, governor of the region southeast of Moscow reported a "massive drone attack" which caused a fire broke out at an oil refinery. "At another facility in Ryazan, a warehouse and several vehicles sustained damage," his Telegram post on Thursday said.

Kyiv has not commented on the strikes but they follow an interview in which the Ukrainian president said that Ukraine will resist U.S. pressure and resume strikes on Russian oil refineries. Trump said last week that Kyiv and Moscow had agreed a truce on hitting energy targets but his announcement took both sides by surprise. Zelensky said he was prepared to honor such a deal but reported that Russian bombardment of Ukrainian energy sites had continued.

In an interview with the Financial Times published Thursday, Zelensky said “the block [on attacking refineries] is out. We’re done." He also warned of the dangers for Ukraine of U.S. restrictions on intelligence sharing and Starlink satellites as Moscow continued its bombardment. When asked in a separate interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan over whether he felt "betrayed" by Trump, Zelensky replied, "yes." This is a developing story and will be updated.
