The New Orleans Saints thought they were adding an immediate playmaker when they selected Jordyn Tyson eighth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, only to lose him before ever taking his first snap as a pro. Tyson injured his right hamstring during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 13, and the Saints initially expected him to miss around two months. The setback was especially frustrating since he'd impressed throughout training camp and was expected to slot in next to Chris Olave and provide Tyler Shough with another dangerous deep threat.
His ability to make contested catches made him one of the top prospects in his class, but his injury history had already been a concern before the draft. While his recovery has taken longer than expected, Saints fans finally have something to celebrate. The team officially designated Tyson to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, opening the door for the rookie receiver to start practicing again.
He's expected to return to practice immediately as New Orleans prepares for Sunday's matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The Saints now have 21 days to evaluate him in practice and decide when to activate him.
They can bring him back at any point during that window, but he can't officially play until he's activated to the 53-man roster. That said, there's some hope he could make his NFL debut against the Browns on Sunday, and the Saints haven't ruled that out. Coming off a bye in Week 8, this was the game a lot of fans had circled as the likely return date.

Tyson's elite skill set would add another element to this Saints offense, giving them a much-needed boost with the NFC South remaining wide open.
