Sam Surridge scored an equalizer in the first minute of second-half stoppage time for visiting Nashville SC, who played Inter Miami to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening. Surridge’s goal, his second of the evening and 15th of the season, came after Shak Mohammed’s shot was saved by Dayne St Clair. Surridge was in position to put home the rebound to help Eastern Conference-leading Nashville steal a point on the road against second-place Inter Miami.
It canceled out Lionel Messi’s goal in the 62nd minute, his league-high 19th of the season and 99th across all competitions for Inter Miami. He took a pass from Rodrigo De Paul just beyond the top of the box and sent a soaring, left- footed shot past Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake to give his team a 2-1 lead. After giving up Surridge’s equalizer, Miami had a look at a winner in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, but De Paul’s attempt rang off the left post in what turned out to be the final kick of the match. Despite Messi’s go-ahead goal with less than 30 minutes remaining, Surridge’s leveler sent Miami to a third straight draw and one win in their past eight league matches.
Nashville, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten streak against Miami to four matches across all competitions. André Luiz scored the first goal of his MLS career and Stefan Cleveland made six saves to help Sporting Kansas City earn a 3-1 upset of visiting Los Angeles FC on Saturday night. Taylor Calheira and Jacob Bartlett also scored for Kansas City, who snapped a three-game losing streak and won its first game since 22 July.
Denis Bouanga scored the lone goal for Los Angeles, who saw their four-game unbeaten stretch come to an end. Hugo Lloris had five saves, but Los Angeles allowed three goals for the first time since a 3-2 loss to Nashville on 17 May. Antoine Griezmann scored for a fifth straight game, and Orlando City extended their winning streak to three games with a 3-0 victory against visiting Toronto FC on Saturday.
Orlando are unbeaten in five straight. Toronto lost for the first time since 25 July, snapping a seven-game unbeaten streak. Momentum shifted back and forth between the sides in the first half, with each having their opportunities.
Griezmann’s footwork would get the Lions on the board in the first minute of stoppage time in the opening half. Zakaria Taifi spotted the French striker heading toward the goal area and directed a feed on target from the right side that Griezmann got his left foot on to put it under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead. Rookie forward Harvey Sarajian scored his first career MLS goal to make it 2-0 Orlando in the 82nd minute. The 21-year-old took a short feed from Daryl Dike to the right side and directed it inside the far post.
