Scarlett Johansson isn’t new to the superhero genre, but her role in “The Batman: Part II” still proved to be its own challenge. Johansson told “Entertainment Tonight” that her upcoming role in the Robert Pattinson-led feature, which hasn’t been revealed, pushed her outside her comfort zone and spurred “a lot of existential angst, for some reason.” “It was very hard to figure out,” she told the outlet in an interview for her upcoming film “Paper Tiger.” “I don’t know why, whether it was just the role or it was just where I am in my life, but it was just hard to crack it. And that’s all I can say about it.” Johansson‘s role in the film was confirmed in May in an X post by director Matt Reeves, which offered nothing more than a GIF of the actress’ reflection in a car’s rear view mirror from the 2013 film “Under the Skin.” Her casting was confirmed alongside several other superhero flick alumni in undisclosed roles, including Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry.
Production on the film is currently being led by Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh after Reeves, who also helmed 2022’s “The Batman,” temporarily stepped away from the film due to a personal matter. Reeves has said the film would focus more on Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne after the first film heavily followed his Batman incarnation.
