Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold left Wednesday's Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots after suffering an injury on the first drive of the 2026 season. Darnold was diagnosed with a unique soft-tissue injury on his right glute, and initially listed as doubtful to play in Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. On Wednesday, the team officially ruled the quarterback out.
Drew Lock, who took over for Darnold and led the Seahawks to victory in Week 1, will once again take the field as quarterback for the reigning Super Bowl champions. While Darnold is already ruled out for Week 2, the team reportedly has no intentions to place him on the injured reserve. Lock completed 16 of his 22 pass attempts after coming in for Darnold in the first quarter of Wednesday's Week 1 Super Bowl rematch, recording 187 passing yards and one passing touchdown to reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The Seahawks now turn their attention toward an Arizona Cardinals team that mounted a surprising Week 1 upset over the Los Angeles Chargers this past weekend. Sunday's game will kick off at 4:25 p.m.
