The Seattle Seahawks had one of the top defenses in the NFL last season, but they’ll have to make do without one of their key pieces for a significant amount of time. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, second-round safety Bud Clark suffered a serious injury in Seattle’s second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Clark went down on the first defensive play against the Titans.
His leg was placed in an air cast and he was carted away for further evaluation. He’s out several months,” Rapoport posted on X. Seattle lost safety Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears in free agency (he signed a $40 million deal back in March).
Clark, a two-time All-Big 12 defensive back at TCU, was believed to be his replacement heading into the season opener against the New England Patriots on Sept. 9. With Clark’s injury, the Seahawks still have a hole in their secondary that needs addressing. Julian Love, Ty Okada, and Rodney Thomas II all could see playing time opposite Nick Emmanwori in the defensive backfield while Clark recovers.
The Seahawks also lost backup offensive lineman Mason Richman to what head coach Mike Macdonald believes is a serious, long-term injury. Richman was injured on Seattle’s first offensive drive, though he walked off the field under his own power. The 24-year-old started at left guard against the Titans and was primed to be a rotational backup lineman.
