Deshaun Watson entered concussion protocol on Wednesday, setting him to possibly miss Sunday's game versus the Saints.

The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday that starting quarterback Deshaun Watson entered concussion protocol. He hasn't been officially ruled out for Sunday, but there's a good chance Watson won't be able to compete against the New Orleans Saints. If Watson is ruled out, then Browns coach Todd Monken will more than likely look to backup Shedeur Sanders to start.

It would be Sanders's first start of the season. Sanders started in seven games during his rookie season last year. Watson missed the entire 2025 season as he was recovering from a torn right Achilles tendon.

Sanders led the Browns to a 3-4 record during his starts, leading him to earn a Pro Bowl bid as a rookie. As Watson recovered from his injury, he's earned all eight starts so far this season. Sanders is excited to potentially get his first start this season on Sunday, even though he wishes Watson the best.

Here's what Sanders had to say when speaking to media on Wednesday. "Well first, I definitely want to thank just the whole coaching staff and [general manager] Andrew Berry and everybody a part of the organization for giving me another chance to be here for this year, this season and everything," Sanders said. "Last year, I was able to see what I need to see, feel different things during the games and understand what I need to get better at.

Going into this offseason, we worked on that. ... Overall, I'm just excited for the opportunity." It would also mark the first time Sanders has played with rookie standout wide receiver KC Concepcion. Even though they haven't played in a game together yet, Concepcion told reporters that he's established a good relationship with Sanders just in case that he would step in to play over Watson.

"My relationship with both quarterbacks are amazing," Concepcion said, via WEWS' Camryn Justice. "Me and Shedeur are kind of in the same age, so me and him can relate to a lot of things about first year inside the league. But I mean the same way my relationship is with Deshaun.
