Jesse Lee Calhoun, the Oregon man already charged with the murders of five women, has now been indicted over the death of a sixth, prosecutors said on Wednesday. The 41-year-old has been indicted in Multnomah County on one count of first-degree manslaughter in the death of 32-year-old Elizabeth “Libby” Gibson. Senior Deputy District Attorney Melissa Marrero said in a press conference that Gibson was reported missing in March 2023, and is believed to have died on or around November 18, 2022.
Prosecutors allege Calhoun unlawfully and recklessly caused Gibson's death “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.” Her body has not been found. The indictment is the sixth case filed against Calhoun, who has pleaded not guilty to five counts of second-degree murder and four counts of second-degree abuse of a corpse relating to the deaths of five other women. Unlike the five previous cases, Calhoun has been charged with first-degree manslaughter rather than murder in Gibson’s death.
Marrero said that Gibson's name came up early in the investigation, but it was not until much later that investigators were able to link her to Calhoun. Investigators have not revealed whether Gibson knew Calhoun or the circumstances surrounding her death. Despite Gibson’s body not having been found, Marrero said prosecutors had “sufficient evidence” to bring the case.
Gibson’s family described her as a “kind, creative, and silly” person who welcomed people “with love and acceptance,” in a statement released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. Calhoun was first charged in 2024 over the deaths of Charity Lynn Perry, 24, Bridget Leanne Webster, 31, and Joanna Speaks, 32. All three women were found dead in 2023, and police believe they died on different days between March and April of that year.
In 2025, he was further charged with the death of Kristin Smith, 22, who is believed to have been killed in 2022, according to police. Earlier this year, he was charged with the death of Ashley Real, 22, believed to have been killed in March 2023. The five women’s bodies were found in outdoor areas within a 100-mile radius of each other.
Calhoun’s previously scheduled trial date was canceled after he was indicted in the fifth case, and prosecutors said the latest indictment could further affect the timeline for proceedings. He will be arraigned on the latest indictment on September 21. When asked whether Calhoun could be labelled a “serial killer,” the Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez said: “When it comes to definitions and how people choose to label this case, that will be up to the media and others.” He added that prosecutors were focused on the “six young women” and on proving that their deaths were connected.
