Ahead of a huge showdown against Ohio State, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian didn't hesitate to throw some major shade towards Lane Kiffin and LSU. The Buckeyes and Longhorns clash on Saturday night in what's being billed as one of the biggest games of the early college football season. However, Sarkisian, appearing on ESPN's "College GameDay," alluded to the drama and controversy surrounding SEC team LSU, with Lane Kiffin attempting to add players who had signed NFL contracts and participated in training camps to his roster.
"First of all, look at this. Like, this is what this is about. Look at this crowd," Sarkisian said, pointing at the cheering fans behind him at the ESPN set.
"And so, and then you look in front of this set, and you see those two helmets down there. Just the branding of these two programs. What it means for college football.
We're not talking about injunctions and TROs and lawsuits. We're talking about a hell of a football game that's gonna get played tonight," the Texas head coach said. Neither player played in an LSU game, though, amid battles involving the SEC and the school's football program. The SEC had been moving toward potentially kicking LSU out of the conference because of their attempts to add those players. Earlier this week, ESPN reported that LSU filled out its 105-player roster and backed off from adding Wright or Harris, seemingly ending the SEC's attempt to get the school kicked out of the conference.
Meanwhile, many college football games will be played on Saturday, with all of the aforementioned nationally ranked teams in action. No. 8 LSU, which steamrolled Clemson in their season-opening game, will host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. At the same time, Sarkisian's Longhorns will face the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
