Fleetwood Mac icon Stevie Nicks, 78, is mourning the loss of her younger brother, Christopher Aaron "Chris" Nicks, who died on September 4 after a private battle with cancer. According to family members, Chris had spent the last two and a half years fighting the disease but chose to keep his diagnosis largely out of the public eye. The news was announced by his daughter, Nixi Parkinson Nicks, who revealed that her father died surrounded by family.
She posted a statement on social media which read: "It is with a broken heart that I announce the passing of my father, Christopher Aaron Nicks, early this morning, surrounded by family." Nixi explained that Chris had quietly battled cancer for 2.5 years and had preferred not to worry others by making his condition public. She added that her father had touched countless lives and described the deep bond he shared with friends and family. "I know that he has left his mark on so many people," Nixi wrote.
We will see you in Neverland." Among those paying tribute was Fleetwood Mac co-founder Mick Fleetwood, who reflected on his longtime connection to Chris through Stevie and the Fleetwood Mac family. "The passing of Chris Nicks has brought so many memories of his amazing life ... much of course was shared connected to Fleetwood Mac," Fleetwood wrote on social media platform X. He added: "His zest for life will be a forever beacon of inspiration!!
Chris you will be missed by me and I know the Family of Fleetwood Mac. Peace and love." At the time of publishing, Stevie Nicks hasn’t publicly commented on her brother's death. Newsweek has contacted her agent via email for comment.
Although he largely stayed out of the spotlight compared with his famous sister, Chris Nicks played a significant role behind the scenes throughout Stevie's career. He worked on merchandise operations for several of Stevie's solo tours and became a familiar figure to fans. Chris was also known for introducing Stevie before performances during multiple solo tours, including Rock a Little (1986), The Other Side of the Mirror (1989), Street Angel (1994), and Enchanted (1998).
Before Chris took over the role, those introductions had often been handled by the siblings' father, Jess Nicks. His contributions extended beyond tour support. Chris also appeared in Stevie Nicks' music videos for "Talk to Me" and "I Can't Wait" and received a songwriting credit on "The Nightmare," a track from her 1985 solo album Rock a Little.
