Susan Sarandon has stated that her support for Palestine has led to her losing film roles. The 79-year-old noted that although she feels "the narrative has completely changed in terms of the historical relevance of Palestine and the ties of zionists with America in our politics", figures in the industry are still choosing not to hire her over her views. Speaking at the Venice Film Festival about how her stance on Israel’s actions in Gaza has affected her work, she said: "In terms of the power structure, I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still.
"But that’s the power structure, I think within the people, certainly internationally, I feel welcome." Sarandon was attending a press conference for her upcoming film The Echo Chamber, playing Ava, a singer-songwriter who hires a music producer with a history of drug addiction for her comeback album. She thanked director Andrea Pallaoro for not "listening to the warnings" from those opposed to her working in cinema. Sarandon added: "I’ve found my family, I’ve found my people, and I’m ok." The actress featured in The Witches Of Eastwick (1987), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Dead Man Walking (1995), winning an Oscar for best actress in a leading role for the latter.
Last month, she honoured her Rocky Horror co-star Tim Curry following his death at 80. Writing on her Instagram, alongside a carousel of images of the pair together through the years, Sarandon wrote: “What a funny, sexy, original he was. But what I loved about him most was his heart.
