Takaichi to meet Trump on U.N. sidelines ahead of U.S.-China summit

President Donald Trump will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Washington’s envoy to the U.N. has said. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz confirmed Friday that Trump would deliver a speech at the UNGA and meet Takaichi and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the sidelines of the event. Takaichi is likely aiming to use the opportunity to convey Tokyo’s views on China to Trump while highlighting the strength of the Japan-U.S. alliance.
