Texas A&M came into the weekend looking like one of the hottest teams in college football. They opened their season with a 50-0 blowout win over Missouri State and followed that up with a 48-20 rout over Arizona State. But everything changed when Kentucky came to College Station on Saturday.
The Wildcats played physical and stayed even with the Aggies throughout before blowing the game open in the third quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points to take a 21-point lead into the fourth. Texas A&M fought back late, but it wasn't enough, and Mike Elko's team ultimately fell 31-21. It was a signature win for Will Stein's Wildcats in his first year as head coach, and a brutal loss for Elko's Aggies.
That wasn't the only setback for Texas A&M, though. On Monday, Elko revealed that wide receiver Terry Bussey, a former five-star prospect and one of the team's leading receivers, is set to miss the rest of the 2026 season with a lower-body injury. After seeing most of his action on special teams in his first two seasons with the Aggies, posting 638 yards on 27 kickoff returns, averaging 23.6 yards per return, he was expected to take another step this year and establish himself as one of the SEC's most explosive wideouts. Instead, he'll now have to look ahead to 2027, closing out his junior season with just 92 receiving yards on seven catches. This is the last thing Texas A&M needs right now.
The Aggies struggled to move the ball in Saturday's loss to Kentucky, and now they'll be without one of their top playmakers for the rest of the season. Their upcoming schedule doesn't help matters either. They'll head to Death Valley this week for a clash with LSU, followed by road contests against No. 19 Missouri, No. 8 Alabama, South Carolina, and Oklahoma later in the year, as well as games against No. 14 Tennessee and No. 1 Texas.
