Semi-truck had clipped a guardrail and ended face down in a ditch off US-60

A semi-truck hauling about 40,000 pounds of cheese crashed off US-60 outside Whiteriver, Arizona, spilling its load onto the ground, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Wednesday. Highway Patrol state troopers responded to a report of a truck and trailer that had driven into a ditch on August 16. When troopers, local police and emergency medical crews arrived, they found the semi had clipped a guardrail and ended up face down in a drop-off.

Investigators determined the truck had failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and continued straight, leaving the roadway to the right. The semi then went through the end of the guardrail, crossed over a pile of large boulders and broke through a right-of-way fence before plunging down a steep ravine. The truck's cargo of about 40,000 pounds of cheese spilled across the ground during the crash.

The driver told investigators that he had swerved to avoid an animal. However, troopers said fatigue may also have played a role in the crash. It is unclear whether the driver sustained any injuries.

No matter what you drive, slow down, stay alert and make sure you're good to drive.” Commenters had fun piling on with their own cheese puns in response to the Facebook post. In this heat, it's all nacho toppings!” another reacted to the spillage facing Arizona temperatures. A third added, “Everything's better with Cheddar.

I know I'm such a munster. Feta luck next time.” The Independent has contacted the Arizona Department of Public Safety for comment. Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies
