Gardner Minshew will forever go down as an Arizona Cardinals hero after leading the team to a huge comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. In the third quarter, Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur benched starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett when Arizona was down 17-3. Minshew came in and led the Cardinals to four consecutive touchdown drives to eventually tie the game 30-30 and force overtime.
Minshew finished his Cardinals debut by completing 17-of-23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns. After two quick three-and-outs from both teams, Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland made a 42-yard field goal to win the game for his team in overtime. This came after he could've won the game at the end of regulation by making an extra point that he missed.
With the win, the Cardinals defied their own odds, via ESPN Insights. Since the 2000 season, the team went 1-147-1 when they trailed by 14 points or more in the fourth quarter, which they did on Sunday. Now they can say they've gone 2-147-1 in that span.
On the flip side, the Cowboys defied their own odds in a more negative way. Dallas was 69-0 at home when they lead by 14 points or more in the fourth quarter. After choking the game on Sunday, the Cowboys can say they've gone 69-1 in that span.
If Cowboys fans thought their 2026 season couldn't be more disappointing, Sunday proved them wrong. It should've been an easy win for them to hold off the Cardinals for essentially the fourth quarter. Instead, the defense failed to stop Arizona from scoring and winning the game.
The Cowboys' offense still posted 13 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to seal the victory.
