New York City is having a moment, and honestly it's getting a little smug about it. What's left for this city to receive, a personalized love letter set to music? Sam Smith's fifth album Hazel Eyes arrives August 21, and the press release calls it "a heartfelt ode to the city of New York which Sam now calls home." It also gets the descriptor "romantic," which tracks, because Smith has a very specific reason to be soft on New York right now.
They recently confirmed their engagement to fashion designer Christian Cowan, who is also the reason they crossed an ocean to live here in the first place. The album title is a nod to Cowan's eyes. Insert New York eye roll here.
That said, falling in love with a person is the fastest way to fall in love with a city. You start defending your bodega guy to strangers. You forgive the smell in August.
