According to the Detroit News' Chris McCosky, the Tigers have assigned outfielder Trei Cruz to Triple-A Toledo. This comes after the 28-year-old was designated for assignment and then cleared waivers. Cruz will now be looking to impress with Triple-A Toledo after this roster move.
If he does, perhaps it could open the door for him to get another chance on the Tigers' major league roster in the future. Cruz has appeared in five games for the Tigers this season, where he has gone 0-for-5 at the plate and struck out three times. This was his first experience at the MLB level.
Cruz has spent most of this season in the minors. In 75 games split between Single-A and Triple-A, he has recorded two home runs, 27 RBI, and a .230 batting average. Now, he will be looking to improve these numbers after being sent back down to Triple-A Toledo.
In 262 minor league games over six seasons, Cruz has posted 48 home runs, 120 doubles, 262 RBI, and a .236 batting average. Overall, he has shown some promise in the minors, and it will be interesting to see if he can land a call-up again to the majors in the future.
