The Detroit Tigers have added a new relief pitcher to their roster. According to MLive.com's Evan Woodbery, the Tigers have signed relief pitcher Tyler Kinley to a major league contract. In addition, Woodbery shared that Kinley has been assigned to Detroit's major league roster.
Kinley signing with the Tigers comes a few days after he was designated for assignment and then released by the Atlanta Braves. Now, the veteran righty has found his new home with the Tigers with this latest move. Kinley has the potential to be a very solid addition to the Tigers' bullpen.
He has shown that he can make a real impact when pitching at his best, so it makes sense that the Tigers are taking a gamble on him. Just last season, he had a 5-0 record and a 0.72 ERA in 24 games for the Braves after being acquired from the Colorado Rockies. In 49 games this season with the Braves before being released, Kinley posted a 6-5 record, a 4.01 ERA, and 42 strikeouts.
Kinley will now give the Tigers another veteran relief pitcher to work with, which is never a bad thing. In 391 career MLB games over nine seasons split between the Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins, Rockies, and Braves, the 6-foot-4 righty has posted a 25-19 record to go along with a 4.67 ERA.
