Hall of Famer Tobin Heath has retired as a member of the Portland Thorns after signing a one-day contract with the club.

Hall of Famer Tobin Heath has officially retired as a member of the Portland Thorns. Heath signed a one-day contract with the Thorns before the club honored her career with a pre-match ceremony on Saturday. The Thorns went on to win that game against the Denver Summit 1-0.

Fellow USWNT star and former Thorns teammate Sophia Wilson scored for Portland in the 44th minute of the game. Heath played for the Thorns from 2013-20 and was part of the club's 2013 and 2017 NWSL championship teams. Individually, she was a three-time NWSL Best XI selection and became the franchise’s all-time regular-season assist leader.

When she led Portland to an NWSL championship in her first season in 2013, Heath scored the game-winning free kick and was named the Championship Most Valuable Player. Heath led the Thorns to a second NWSL championship in 2017 and helped Portland secure the NWSL Shield for best regular-season record in 2016. Heath announced her retirement from soccer last summer but she has not appeared in a game since 2022 with the now-Seattle Reign.

Heath underwent career-ending knee surgery in September 2022. Since then, Heath earned an induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. The two-time World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist was inducted in her first year of eligibility in May.
